Legal Definition

This law prohibits a person from contacting or attempting to contact a minor (under 18 years old) with the specific intent to commit certain crimes.

In an effort to combat increasing incidents of internet predators, the California Legislature enacted Penal Code 288.3 in 2006. This crime is very similar to Penal Code 288.4 (“Arranging a Meeting with a Minor for Lascivious Purposes”) and Penal Code 288.2 (“Sending Harmful Material with the Intent to Seduce a Minor”).
