To be valid, a driver\u2019s license does not necessarily have to be issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles. It only needs to be:<\/p><ul><li>A valid driver\u2019s license from the state where you live, and<\/li><li>Valid for the type of vehicle (car, motorcycle, commercial truck, etc.) that you are driving.<\/li><\/ul><p>If the police issued you a citation for driving without a license, then you (or your attorney, if you hire one) must appear in court on the scheduled hearing date. If neither you nor your attorney appear, the judge will issue an arrest warrant.<\/p><p>Although driving without a license is a relatively minor offense, it is still considered a misdemeanor. A conviction, if you receive one, will appear on your criminal record. The best way to avoid this outcome is to consult with a criminal defense attorney.
