It is commonly known that driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in California is illegal. However, many people are not aware that riding a bicycle under the influence (CUI) is also an offense. Section 21200.5 of the California Vehicle Code prohibits riding a bicycle while under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or both.
Penalties or Consequences
The penalty for a CUI is a fine of no more than $250 and does not include jail time. Although the punishment for a CUI is less severe than the penalties for a DUI in California, a CUI is still considered a misdemeanor and will appear as a conviction on your criminal record. For this reason, our attorneys at Progresso Legal Group P.C. will work to help you keep your record clean and even have the conviction removed.
